I’ve always said I’d build a little hothouse addition on my home so I could have flowers all year round. After all the effort spent tending gardens, pruning and putting in new bulbs before winter, I’m not so sure. It’s good to have indoor time be about other things.

I’m crazy about morning glories. They’re drop dead beautiful but no question about it; they’re wild and willful in the garden with a propensity for creating a jungle effect attaching willy-nilly to neighbors with their strong red vines. They’re said to bring peace and happiness- putting seeds under your pillow to encourage a restful sleep free of nightmares. This theory could stem from the fact they contain Lysergic Acid- or natural LSD.

In November, thoughts turn again indoors. Household plants, in addition to being easy on the eye, are good for you too- they absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen, eliminating toxic agents like benzene, formaldehyde and trichloroethylene from the air. It’s recommended to have at least one plant per 100 square feet of home or office space for efficient air cleaning. (I think I’ll have five.)
