Paola Prints was thrilled to participate in the 25th Holiday in the Depot in Washington CT. We were hosted by staff and owner Michael Ackerman of The Pantry, a fabulous American Café featuring the area’s premiere bakery, artisan food and catering since 1977. What makes such a place successful? Great food. Kind people. A fun evening for all. Being with neighbors and friends -holiday gatherings are always a kick. Honestly, it’s part of what makes you keep going, right?

Nothing says holidays like dressing up. I had fun wearing one of my original jackets to the event-a fabric applique creation. You can see the inspiration behind my pillows. Always green and bright colors. And always taken from plants I grow in my Litchfield gardens.

As one of seven girls growing up I remember marking holidays with new clothes. Historically speaking “dressing up” is always associated with a special occasion.  I like new clothes because they make me feel special- and a part of the special occasion.

Home decor trends in many ways are closely aligned seasonally with fashion trends in clothing.

The northeast where we live, is still incredibly conservative. So maybe we have to read and think about things longer before giving ourselves permission to “go there”. Wait, I include myself -but only insofar as I try to be sensitive to those around me. Bury me in a dress of many colors or I’ll come back to haunt you.

Here’s an article I found in the New Yorker in 2014 about a fashion maven by the name of Charles Parker. Charlie was ahead of his time and is remembered for the wrap dress, the A-line coat and infinity scarf. Sound familiar? He was less known than many and struggled mightily, but very interesting to follow relative to his process.

                                                               Raspberry Hosta

Like all great designs each Paola pillow withstands time and furniture changes. Raspberry Hosta is no exception. She goes with every color under the sun. Did you ever bring home a flower that didn’t match?

Music is always a great spirit booster. I decided to look up some music of the season to share. I know you’ll find something to enjoy.

Nothing says holiday more than a good romance- Country singer songwriter Chris Stapleton and his wife- More of You

Jazz, always a winner: Frosty the Snowman– performed by  NY JAZZ XMAS

Motown Christmas by some of the greats.

Vintage Christmas Radio Songs

Classic Bing Crosby– White Christmas and more.
