This past year, I lived in Greenville, South Carolina and worked diligently at sourcing printers and fabric for my new line of decorative pillows. My husband and I lived in a little apartment- he went off to work and I stayed home working on cost of goods, color correcting digital art files and reviewing printed samples. Frequent trips out to suppliers and home décor markets took me to various places including North Carolina and Atlanta, Georgia. I learned a lot. And I loved the area. We had just started making friends when it was time to return home to Connecticut.

I’m not sure I could have done the start-up work if I were home in Litchfield. The gardens are wild! So much weeding and staking to do. Almost none of the hydrangeas are blooming and everything is coming up yellow this month!

It was hard to miss all the spring flowers and azaleas- the hybrid lilies are once again covered with the nefarious Japanese beetle- minus their leaves. (Isn’t it time for a natural predator to emerge and take them down)? I’ve learned that the hard work of gardening is much easier if you can enjoy the flowers. At the same time, I’ve also learned that garden pillows can be enjoyed year round and require no weeding!
