There’s something about summer that makes me want to wander. As a child, we spent a few weeks of summer away from the city- usually near water. I loved it- always new experiences and things to do outside. These were not summer resorts with organized activities. Typically a summer rental home near woods and lake. We’d grab a canoe, or rowboat and cross the lake to a small island, pick up white birch bark and carry it home and make things. Head out again late afternoon and fish for perch. I remember one night bringing home a couple dozen of them. Of course, then we had to gut them outside on the lawn- some of the freshest fish I ever ate. After dinner, we’d head out again to play hide and seek with the kids next door.
Summer will always have a special place in my heart. Wandering with family and new friends.
