The weather gave us a short series of sunny days to clean and stain the front deck. It’s taken roughly 500 days to get here. (We missed last year entirely) Happily, I was able to take short breaks to visit our little cactus- boasting four flowers this year- three in a row!  Deck Refinishing Friday, we taped, wet down and applied cleaner and brightener to the mahogany deck. This time of year, I’m generally trying to shake off the old and get into the new side of life. Some of that just requires taking a pause- opening your eyes and allowing new things in. I’d suggest that people suffer tremendously from a lack of time, difficulty in focusing and generally giving themselves the things they need as opposed to things that need doing. Take time, give time and when it’s needed- listen. There’s a certain drama to the garden in late summer. It’s almost as if plants know they haven’t much time left to soak up sun and rain. The light is more intense and the plants more hardy. The leaves that have made it this far and the blooms still hanging on  after their color is gone have a certain character about them. A last hurrah before the New England frost shuts them down for another season. Time to hibernate. Related Images:
