Home décor follows the seasons. There’s a reason for that. In the natural world, new plant life emerges in spring, grows, and then dies off in fall. Regardless of whether a person has a real interest in being outdoors, our lives follow the cycle of the seasons by default- just consider our shopping habits- end of summer school clothes, holiday gifts and who doesn’t need a new bag come spring? Color, Glorious Colors
Autumn colors are unique in their unmatched intensity of hues. Gold and reds are luminous when bathed in a bright and chilly late afternoon. This dahlia was languishing on the dining room table- drooping, petal ends fast discoloring – until I carried it outside to the garden once again. It’s where I prefer to shoot- in natural light. Color is so subjective. It’s one of the things I enjoy about shooting outside. Every second brings color changes with light, angles or settings. I struggle with equipment- moving a lot -with little regard for circumstance. Happily this time of year, most

Raising Sunflowers
The sunflower on this pillow is actually a baby sunflower. I started it from seed inside, until the plant was strong enough to stand up to the elements. Weaklings at birth, sunflowers grow into amazing, strong sun worshippers. Related Images:

Crazy for sunflowers
I’m crazy about sunflowers. The “big” ones. There’s something about the size of a sunflower that accentuates its complexity. When possible, I like to raise sunflowers from seed. This first photo represents the way I’d always thought of them. Yellow, bright, strong and independent. Having grown them for several years, I can confirm that they’re all of that and more. The Original Throw Pillow
Ever wonder why they’re called throw pillows? I vaguely recall throwing lots of pillows when I was growing up, including bed pillows. Not sure that’s what was intended. Related Images:

There’s No Place Like Home In The Garden
This past year, I lived in Greenville, South Carolina and worked diligently at sourcing printers and fabric for my new line of decorative pillows. My husband and I lived in a little apartment- he went off to work and I stayed home working on cost of goods, color correcting digital art files and reviewing printed samples. Frequent trips out to suppliers and home décor markets took me to various places including North Carolina and Atlanta, Georgia. I learned a lot. And I loved the area. We had just started making friends when it was time to return home to Connecticut.
